In this critical role, the Site Engineer will ensure construction activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in alignment with project specifications, quality standards, and timelines. This is an opportunity to contribute to high-profile and technically rewarding projects, working collaboratively with experienced project managers, site teams, subcontractors, consultants, and clients.


Responsibilities

As a Site Engineer, you will take a leading role in supporting the successful delivery of construction projects from initiation through completion. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting out construction works following approved project drawings and specifications.
  • Interpreting engineering designs, blueprints, and technical documents to ensure works are accurately executed.
  • Monitoring construction activities to ensure compliance with quality standards, contractual agreements, and legal regulations.
  • Coordinating daily site operations alongside the Project Manager and Site Manager to achieve programme goals.
  • Supervising subcontractors to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and to the desired standards.
  • Conducting site inspections and quality checks while promptly identifying and resolving technical issues.
  • Preparing and maintaining thorough site documentation, including daily reports, progress summaries, inspection logs, and as-built records.
  • Assisting in short-term project planning, scheduling, and resource management to optimise productivity.
  • Liaising with clients, consultants, architects, local authorities, and utility providers.
  • Supporting procurement processes by identifying and coordinating the delivery of required materials to the site.
  • Monitoring project schedules and reporting risks, delays, or changes to senior management.
  • Ensuring full compliance with safety, environmental, and quality management systems and promoting a culture of safety on-site.
  • Assisting with project handover, commissioning, and final documentation.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
  • Industry Experience: Proven experience as a Site Engineer in the construction or civil engineering sectors.

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong knowledge of construction methodologies and engineering principles.
  • Proficient in setting out using modern surveying equipment (e.g. GPS and total stations).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation in the construction industry.
  • Solid understanding of construction contracts and quality assurance processes.
  • Analytical mindset with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for fostering relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office is required, and experience with software such as AutoCAD, surveying tools, or project management platforms is advantageous.
  • Licenses and Mobility: A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to various project sites.

Desirable Experience

Day-to-Day Activities

On a typical day, you’ll find yourself:

  • Surveying and Setting Out: Ensuring all works are marked accurately according to designs.
  • Supervising and Coordinating: Guiding subcontractors, managing resources, and maintaining programme objectives.
  • Problem Solving: Identifying site challenges and promptly implementing effective solutions.
  • Reporting and Documenting: Recording daily site activity, inspections, and maintaining compliance with project requirements.
  • Engaging with Stakeholders: Collaborating with clients, consultants, and site teams to drive project success.
  • Monitoring Health and Safety: Upholding and promoting the highest safety standards on-site.
