Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a well-established organisation as a Senior Buyer within its growing Procurement team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation’s Procurement Strategy and Annual Procurement Plan. This position involves managing and delivering high-value, strategic, and business-critical sourcing initiatives that are commercially effective, compliant, and in alignment with internal policies and applicable legislation.
This role is ideal for an experienced procurement professional with a track record in strategic sourcing, tender management, supplier negotiations, and contract implementation.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Buyer, you will report to a Category Manager and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and colleagues across the Procurement function. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Managing multi-stage, complex sourcing and tender events from initiation to contract award.
- Collecting and analysing procurement data to inform commercial decisions.
- Conducting supply market analysis and pre-market engagement.
- Developing and nurturing strong relationships with internal stakeholders and suppliers.
- Acting as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, ensuring their requirements are met while managing potential conflicts of interest.
- Drafting and reviewing comprehensive tender documentation.
- Ensuring all sourcing activities are efficient, compliant, and aligned with policies and legislation.
- Making proficient use of electronic procurement systems during the sourcing process.
- Leading supplier negotiations to drive value and secure optimal commercial outcomes.
- Implementing and transitioning new contractual arrangements into operational teams.
- Staying informed of procurement legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing procurement processes, systems, and performance.
- Supporting and delivering cross-functional procurement projects to achieve wider organisational objectives.
Qualifications
To succeed in this position, you will bring:
- A relevant degree or evidence of working towards MCIPS or an equivalent professional procurement qualification.
- Proven experience in managing multifaceted, high-value tender processes.
- Strong commercial acumen and contract management proficiency.
- Demonstrable expertise in supplier and contract negotiations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
- Solid understanding of procurement legislation, regulations, and industry standards.
- Outstanding organisational skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A structured and detail-oriented approach to procurement.
- Confidence working independently while contributing actively to a collaborative team environment.
- A proactive mindset toward identifying opportunities for cost savings, efficiency, and improved commercial outcomes.

Day-to-Day
- Delivering sourcing events and analysing data to make evidence-based decisions.
- Engaging with suppliers and conducting pre-market activities to identify opportunities.

- Negotiating contracts and finalising robust legal agreements.
- Overseeing the implementation of new suppliers and contractual arrangements.
- Leveraging technology and procurement systems to ensure processes run smoothly.
- Contributing actively to process improvements and knowledge sharing within the Procurement team.
- Maintaining compliance with statutory regulations and advocating for responsible, ethical procurement practices.
