Job Description

Gas Turbine Combustor Designer

Location: [UK] | Contract Type: [Temporary]

Overview

Our client, a leading engineering organization, is seeking a talented Gas Turbine Combustor Designer to join their innovative and dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced engineer passionate about cutting-edge gas turbine combustion technology to work on challenging, high-performance engineering projects.

As part of a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment, the successful candidate will be instrumental in the design, development, and optimization of gas turbine combustor systems. This role provides a tremendous opportunity to contribute to the production of efficient, environmentally-conscious, and reliable gas turbine technologies, all while benefiting from global career development opportunities and an inclusive workplace that values diversity and collaboration.

Responsibilities

As a Gas Turbine Combustor Designer, you will:

  • Design and develop advanced gas turbine combustor components, assemblies, and associated hardware.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and supporting design documentation.
  • Collaborate with combustion engineers to ensure designs achieve performance and emissions targets.
  • Consider mechanical and operational requirements such as temperature, pressure, thermal expansion, cooling, durability, fatigue, vibration, and manufacturability.
  • Provide input and technical expertise during design reviews and across the engineering lifecycle—from concept development to production.
  • Investigate design challenges and deliver practical engineering solutions.
  • Support prototype fabrication, assembly, and testing activities while incorporating findings into design improvements.
  • Work with cross-disciplinary teams (thermal, stress, systems engineering) to ensure components perform under operational environments.
  • Partner with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure designs comply with industry standards and are feasible for production.
  • Maintain compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards while producing and managing technical documentation.
  • Contribute to optimizing existing combustor designs and advancing innovative design practices.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, you’ll ideally bring:

Required:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in gas turbine combustor design or combustion hardware development.
  • Strong knowledge of gas turbine combustion principles, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mechanical design concepts.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as NX, CATIA, Creo, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a professional and effective manner.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey technical concepts.

Preferred:

  • Deep expertise in combustion liner design, fuel nozzle/system design, or thermal management.
  • Knowledge of high-temperature materials, coatings, CFD or thermal analysis, and FEA/stress analysis.
  • Previous hands-on involvement in combustion chamber testing, validation, or manufacturing.
  • Background in aerospace, energy, aviation, or power generation applications.

Day-to-Day

In this role, you will:

  • Engage with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions that address complex challenges.
  • Play a pivotal role in the technical development and realization of next-generation gas turbine systems.
  • Leverage engineering principles and design tools to create reliable, efficient, and cost-effective designs.
  • Provide actionable design insights throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Participate in project meetings, offering design expertise to drive decisions in collaboration with peers and stakeholders.
  • Stay current with advancements in combustion technologies and contribute to our culture of continuous improvement.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Access to learning and development programs tailored to accelerate career growth.
  • Collaboration with global experts in advanced gas turbine combustion technology.
  • Opportunities to work on innovative and globally impactful projects.
  • A forward-thinking, inclusive workplace where diversity is celebrated.
