Based in Cardiff, you will be part of the management team, reporting directly to the Divisional Commercial Manager. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth running of several projects, driving sustainable growth, and delivering exceptional results.
Responsibilities
As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will:
- Deliver sustainable, profitable growth by minimising risks, maximising opportunities, and avoiding disputes across projects.
- Oversee both commercial and contractual aspects of projects, supporting project QS and teams to ensure successful delivery.
- Manage higher-risk projects with confidence and expertise.
- Lead and develop commercial teams to achieve delivery and growth in alignment with divisional priorities.
- Provide key input into the development of divisional budgets and take responsibility for delivering forecasted profits and margins.
- Ensure consistent value and cost reporting across all projects.
- Attend monthly commercial contract reviews and communicate progress to senior management.
- Establish robust change control processes to ensure contract price adjustments are identified and agreed upon with customers.
- Maintain strong customer relationships and foster new partnerships within your area of responsibility.
- Support work-winning teams by identifying and quantifying risks and opportunities in tenders and bids.
- Promote innovative ways to add value and reduce costs.
- Support the career development of commercial staff under your management.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Proven experience in a senior commercial role, ideally within the construction or contracting industry.
- Strong knowledge of commercial and contractual management, including risk assessment and change control processes.
- Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop teams.
- A track record of delivering profitable growth and managing high-risk projects.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills to build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, and subcontractors.
- A proactive and innovative mindset, with a focus on adding value and driving efficiency.
- Relevant qualifications in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
Day-to-Day
Your typical day will involve:
- Leading commercial teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
- Reviewing and approving orders and payments in line with corporate governance.
- Attending and contributing to monthly commercial contract reviews.
- Collaborating with operational teams to align commercial activities with project delivery goals.
- Managing change control processes and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
- Supporting the development of junior commercial staff through mentoring and guidance.
- Engaging with clients and stakeholders to maintain strong relationships and identify new opportunities.
