Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced mecahical Estimator to join our clients dynamic pre-construction team. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your expertise in MEP estimating to contribute to impactful commercial projects. As a critical team member, you will ensure the delivery of accurate, competitive, and cost-effective estimates while maintaining the highest industry standards. 

 


Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead MEP Estimating Efforts: Develop detailed and precise cost estimates, taking ownership of the mechanical and electrical components for a variety of commercial building services projects.
  • Analyse Technical Documentation: Perform comprehensive quantity take-offs, evaluating engineering drawings, specifications, and schedules for accuracy and alignment with project goals.
  • Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination: Build strong relationships with vendors and subcontractors to gather competitive pricing, maintain cost databases, and ensure market alignment.
  • Participate in Pre-Construction Initiatives: Collaborate in tender reviews, strategic planning meetings, and value engineering exercises to drive optimized project outcomes.
  • Ensure Seamless Handover: Prepare and deliver well-documented handover packages to project delivery teams, ensuring the successful transition of estimates to execution phases.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who bring:

  • Proven experience estimating MEP systems in commercial construction projects.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems, relevant building codes, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency with estimating software (such as Trimble, Bluebeam, Accubid, or similar tools).
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • A degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred but not required).

Day-to-Day

Here’s a snapshot of what your typical day may entail:

  • Reviewing and interpreting project specifications, drawings, and other tender documents.
  • Performing detailed take-offs and producing cost estimates.
  • Coordinating requests for quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to inform pricing.
  • Engaging with internal stakeholders in collaborative workshops to identify project efficiencies through value engineering.
  • Preparing detailed bid proposals and collaborating with the broader pre-construction team on project strategies.
  • Actively contributing to team discussions to improve workflows, tools, and estimating practices.
